President OBama on his imprompto defense of tax compromise

December 7th, 2010

Our president held an unanounced news conference today in an effort to defend his ultimate decision to allow wealthy tax cuts to continue for another two years. That he felt he must defend himself, especially against his own Democratic party, speaks ill of his support once more in this country. I am proclaiming SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT in this blog, an unpopular stance in the given environment where many Americans, both those who voted for him and especially those who did not, are impatient with the current state of our economy, the war, stock market, and all the other issues that seem to plague his term. I feel I must say that we are an impatient people and cannot seem to remember that most of the problems were inherited by him, not created, and the Republicans have made it near impossible for him to move forward with the things he promised. Now, his own party is being critical that he did not stand firm on his pledge to prevent the wealthy from getting the tax cuts along with the middle class ones he championed. I really don't know how much plainer he has to make it that he felt compelled to compromise with the unbudging republicans whose sole desire or "Golden Grail" as he put it, is to make the rich richer and who cares about the poor because without the rich getting richer, the poor might matter. Or better put, the middle class might do well enough that the rich have competition they don't want, and if that happens, the rich might loose some control of the power they hold in such demand.
Credit should be given to our president for his enthuasim in sending the message that he is ready, willing and even eager to take on the republicans in this fight in 2 years, as well as other issues in the meantime. It must not be honeyed-over that President OBama was just "shallacked" in his own words, by the resent election in which Americans decided to make his campaign pomised even harder to achieve by voting in more republican opposition. How short-sighted and expectant of immediate gratification can we be and still call ourselves adults?
We need to get behind our president's plans - we elected him for them afterall! We cannot complain on one hand that he isn't doing enough and all the while create opposition for him. Who has read his books to know what his long term vision is for this country? In my next blog, I am going to publish exerpts for the education of those who haven't read at least one of them. Not to belittle you, or be condecending because I do not fault you for it; we are all busy and bombarded with things people say we should read. Just for your edification which I hope will open some eyes to the fact that a big picture is needed and the one he has isn't that threatening. Has he taken away our guns or any of the other fear-based propaganda that the republicans have claimed were on his agenda? We need to support our president so he can fufill his promises, and if you disagree with his plan of action, then he will listen via the constituents and compromise - he has proven that. But let's not let the rich republicans hold us hostage anymore. They want the power and the price for it is our very livelihoods (Us, the middle class). They don't care - let's be clear!
